Bob Pauley’s 1998 illustration for Bike to Work Day was such a popular image, that RIDES for Bay Area Commuters asked me to somehow amend it for their 1999 “Bike with a Buddy” campaign. Adjusting the illustration to include two bicyclists and updating the colors, I applied the new artwork to dozens of items including milk cartons, promotional giveaways, t-shirts, banners and printed materials to be distributed among employers and at energizer stations all over the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2000, I once again adapted the image for the annual campaign, this time mimicking the colors and theme of the U.S. Postal Service Pro Cycling Team.
